Burnt boats

We burnt our boats at sundown.

Plumes still shrouded patches of the sky at midnight,

rising like newly born nebulae.

When the waves had swallowed up the last of the embers,

we made our way up the dunes,
barefoot, fingers grazing, eyes ablaze.
